What is full mouth reconstruction?

Various factors, such as accidents, untreated gum disease, tooth decay, or tooth wear due to clenching and grinding your teeth can lead to a situation where the entire mouth is in constant pain, chewing is difficult, and smiling is embarrassing. Full-mouth reconstruction is a fully customized procedure where our doctors replace, rebuild, or repair all your teeth for a full cosmetic makeover.

Your tailored plan may include one or more of the following procedures:

Older Man Smiling
  • Dental Implants: Dental implants are extremely strong, biocompatible titanium posts that act as artificial tooth roots. They can be used to stably support an individual crown, an implant-supported bridge, or a full set of replacement teeth.
  • Fixed Bridgework: Using the most advanced technology, we can provide most patients with any needed extractions, implants, and fixed-in, stable teeth without the need for bone grafting.
  • Implant-Supported Snap-In Dentures: Implant-supported snap-in dentures are the most economical form of full-arch implant-supported tooth replacement. They provide greatly enhanced chewing power and are fully stable.
  • Crowns: A crown is porcelain coverings that caps the entirety of a tooth to strengthen it and fix any structural damage to the tooth. Crowns can be placed as a solution for cosmetic flaws.
  • Bridges: A dental bridge is a series of connected crowns that can replace a missing tooth (without replacing the tooth root). This option has certain disadvantages compared to tooth replacement with dental implants (where the tooth root is replaced) but can be an appropriate option for specific cases.
  • Veneers: Porcelain veneers are thin porcelain coverings that are bonded to the front of your teeth to repair minor chips or cracks or cover cosmetic flaws such as stains or rough or unsightly tooth surfaces.
  • Partial Dentures: Partial dentures are made of strong, medical-grade acrylic and are an economical solution to replacing one or more missing teeth.
  • TMJ: One of the most common sources of mouth pain is misalignment or dysfunction of your temporomandibular joint (TMJ), which can be corrected during your full-mouth reconstruction.

Grand River Dental

Do you have broken-down teeth, or are you currently wearing dentures?

If you have broken-down teeth and need your entire arch restored, our father-daughter team of dentists can provide you with strong, lifelike crowns. Our dentists are skilled at saving teeth and are often able to do so. However, if any of your teeth are beyond repair, they can be replaced with state-of-the-art dental implants and top-quality replacement teeth that look and function just like natural teeth. If you are currently wearing dentures, you are familiar with their limitations. Their minimal chewing power makes it hard or impossible to eat many of the foods you enjoy, your sense of taste is inhibited, and the dentures often slip or click when eating or talking. With full-mouth reconstruction, Dr. Malin can provide you with implant-supported replacement teeth that are stable, comfortable, and provide enhanced chewing power.

Severely worn teeth

Teeth that are severely worn are not attractive and make it difficult to chew. Dr. Malin carefully evaluates each tooth to determine the best option to restore your smile and your oral function, and can treat this condition with one of three options:

  • Veneers: If the tooth is still functional, Dr. Rachel Malin can apply a custom veneer to restore an attractive, consistent appearance.
  • Crown: If the structure of the tooth is still strong, but it no longer functions as it should, our dentists can apply a crown that restores both the look and function of your tooth while retaining your natural tooth and root.
  • Replacement: If the tooth is beyond repair, we can remove the damaged tooth and replace it with a dental implant and custom crown. Not only does this option feel and look natural, but it can last for decades or longer.
